1989 ERA GT40
Full Body Preparation and Paint
This car came to us requiring some steel chassis modifications and full paint. The all fibreglass body required extensive re-straightening and re-gapping followed by the application of a flow coat (a variation of a gel coat) to cover all of the re-straightened areas. Modifications to the chassis were required to accommodate specific parts such as the pedal box. The two-tone paintwork was very labour intensive as it required the team to disassemble and assemble several times. A critical element was making sure the yellow areas perfectly matched from panel to panel.
Background Information from the Owner
This GT40 was ordered from ERA Replica Automobiles of the USA in 1989. Eventually, the body/chassis was built and imported into Australia in 1994. After a long process, it was road registered. Part of that included a torsional chassis test where it matched the original car’s specification. The main difference between the original and the recreation is in the suspension pick up points. ERA slightly changed these to suit more modern and wider tyres. The car was prepared and painted by GT Motors who did a superb job in finishing the entire package.
